A Big SurprisePrebiotics are a relatively new thing and are very interesting prospect to sort of replace probiotics (if you already have a balanced gut). Prebiorics have a much higher tolerance and resistance to the acids in your stomach unlike probiotics which are not as resistant to stomach acid. So not only do they help your gut flora out but they are much more likely to have an impact. Now you might be thinking “Great prebiotics sound cool, but what exactly are they?” Well, prebiotics are fibers that your body can’t digest but are food for probiotics. They can be found in foods like fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Also occurring in fermented foods such as yogurt, sauerkraut, and tempeh. Even though prebiotics are found in yogurt, we advise against solely depending on it for a source in prebiotics.
